The EEMN Púchov region Life and Adventure Teen Camp began on Saturday afternoon, 13 July and ended with a celebration BBQ in the Púchov church yard, on the following Thursday evening. 28 youth participated in the camp week (not all pictured), along with adult team leaders from Slovakia, Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S.
The camp theme was Relationships and what it means to have healthy relationships with Family and Friends, in Dating and Marriage, and with God. An EEMN teen camp looks similar to a confirmation-style camp in the States, where many different activities are combined with group worship/teaching sessions and small group discussions. We enjoyed a lot of outdoor games, tie-dyed T-shirts, had a water day, gathered around the campfire, hiked to Kohutka mountain resort and restaurant on the Slovakia/Czechia border, and watched the thought provoking movie, Let There Be Light. All-in-all, everyone had a great time while we learned and shared a lot about walking with the Lord, through the different relationships in our lives.
At the end of the camp week, our team joined with the EEMN English Bible Camp team in exploring Vienna, Austria and for some recharge time, before returning home.
The 2019 Slovakia Teen Camp Team is finally all together, which was no small feat! On Thursday evening, Daniel flew in from WA and Pr. DMC flew in from Latvia, where he lives and serves full-time as an EEMN missionary. On Friday afternoon, Faith flew in from NM, after a 24-hour flight delay. Pastor David drove them from Vienna, Austria into Slovakia, where they met up with Heather and Rachel who had been serving at a Bible camp in Czechia. Angela arrived on a train from the northeast Slovak town of Vranov, where she finished teaching with the EEMN English Bible Camp team. Whew! (Did I miss anybody?)
Even with jet-lag, several of us opted to take the short hike up to the ancient castle ruins that are perched above our first night accommodations in Považska Bystrica, Slovakia. It was fun to think that only 24-hours earlier Faith and Daniel were still in the States and today they were standing inside an ancient castle in Slovakia! The views are amazing, too! The landscape in Slovakia is dotted with castle ruins and outposts from a time long ago!
We had the opportunity for our American team to spend the evening over dinner with our Slovak hosts co-leaders. An added bonus was the surprise birthday celebration for Faith! Happy Birthday, Faith!
Tonight, everyone will get a good night's rest before we move on to our camp venue and prepare to welcome the teen campers Saturday afternoon! Keep praying for God's work in, around, and through us and stay tuned!
Our hosts in Slovakia are recruiting and receiving applications from students who will participate in the EEMN Life & Adventure Teen Retreat this July! On June 7th, team leaders and EEMN Directors, Pastor David & Angela Breidenbach visited the school in Púchov to make presentations to several classes of English language students and encouraged their participation in the retreat, as well as the EEMN English Bible Camp for elementary students. Host, Miro Mudrak is coordinating both camps, on the Slovak side, and had the poster (above) designed and posted all over the Púchov region of Slovakia to promote the Teen Retreat.
Our American team has completed all of our online video conference team training sessions and we are now making final preparations and planning what to pack for our mission to Slovakia! Please lift up in prayer the entire team, all of the students who will join us, and our Slovak ministry partners that will serve alongside us during the retreat.
