For the first time in over two years, we are finally back in Kondopoga, Russia! The laws have gotten so restrictive, that we cannot even use the word “school” in the promotion or curriculum, and are officially the Kondopoga English Language Friendship Club. Additionally, we can no longer hold our lessons in the schools, but have had to organize our “club” in the Lutheran Church. That said, registration was completely full, by word of mouth only, within five days of word hitting the streets that the Americans were coming. The team consists of Deborah Parks (team leader), Angela Breidenbach, Suzie Olek and Mike Wind.
Today was a successful first day, with each classroom hosting between 12 - 15 students. At the conclusion of the “club” several of the older students sat in the sanctuary singing songs. This is remarkable, since not one of them is a member of the congregation. In fact, only a handful of the students have ever attended church. EEMN is so pleased to partner with Pastor Vadim to help in his efforts for outreach to the community of Kondopoga. Thanks be to God for this new opportunity!
Look forward to additional posts as the week progresses.
