Today was the second day of the Albania English Language Camp, and everything went very well. The students are full of energy, and are continuing to learn English with gusto. I find it amazing that these kids are so much more proficient at learning English than I could ever hope to be in any effort to learn Albanian! That said, our lead musician, Arta, who is from Latvia, knows her native language, of course, but is also fluent in English, and knows a fair bit of Albanian, too. Impressive! When she's leading music, and teaching us new songs, she switches from English to Albanian to Latvian and back with ease! It must be something like the speaking in tongues that took place on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2)!
Tonight, we will all go to dinner at the home of Dan and Dawn Hall, our American missionary friends here in Peshkopi who are very involved in the camp and have made every effort to be great hosts, along with Pastor Ermal and Sarah Lushi. It will be a good evening of debriefing the day and preparing for tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, we will continue to use the story of David in the Old Testament as our primary text for teaching English. The kids (see pic below - about 50 students and 20 adults) - believers and non-believers alike - are really engaging the process and showing no shortage of energy and great humor. They're great fun!
Pr. Phil & Carolyn Lee are the EEMN Albania Team Leaders. After serving as team members in 2017 they grew a true affinity for the people and for the stunning land of Albania. After faithfully serving Deny Park Lutheran in Seattle, Pr. Phil & Carolyn now spend much of their time serving in Arizona at Shepherd's Canyon Retreat Center for pastors, spouses, and ministry leaders in need of emotional and spiritual support.
